We humans sometimes have a hard time sharing space with each other. And if you are a cyclist. you know this very well. Whether you're a roadie or a mountain biker, there are always people who don't like you (and let's be honest — sometimes we cyclists tick people off, and sometimes others do stupid things that tick us off.)
Apparently, one hot spot for these disputes is the downhill mecca of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This is the birthplace of "free riding" or "shore riding", and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
The North Shore is known for highly technical downhill rides. The slopes provide the speed; boulders, logs, and manmade obstacles challenge riders to maintain control and use their skills to stay up and moving. One of the things that the North Shore brought to mountain biking was the idea of creating obstacles as well as taking advantage of the ones that nature provided.
But the tensions have apparently led one Vancouver woman to place logs and rocks on the trails in an attempt to delay or stop riders. An !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the woman (who has not been identified publicly) was arrested at 5 a.m. at a trail head. The woman was caught on camera laying her traps by mountain bikers who had put cameras in the trees to try and find out who was doing it.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as saying that she understands what would drive someone to do this: "Mountain biking as a sport is unstoppable. It's good for the economy and everything else, but it has to be contained... When people's concerns about safety and the environment aren't being heard by district parks, it leads to people getting frustrated and trying to enforce the issue themselves."
The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and the actions of the cyclists who caught her in the act.
But given the nature of the trails, doing things that could seriously injure or even kill a rider is possibly not the best way of protesting.
I know we cyclists are annoying sometimes, but if we promise not to kill hikers, will hikers promise not to kill us?

I love mountain biking, but my bike isn't of the best caliber I'd say.
for some reason, I got an old man chilling out pissed at me because I was biking at 10 KM/H on the sidewalk (I had my computer on), nobody was around.

OMG.... As I sit here with a broken metacarpal due to "alien" obstacles on the track, I want throttle this lady. She could have really hurt someone on a downhill more than I was.
Anyway, a lot of my OPPO lust is to find the perfect and fairly cheap bike hauler for semi off road situations... Any ideas ?

I've done a similar thing at Whiteface and Killington. My own abilites are way beyond what the bike was capable of doing.

I wish the Dick's brand bike I currently have could hold up to this type of riding. As much as I'd like to try, it would probably break apart from beneath me. I need way more practice before I could do trails like that regularly but my bike is kinda holding me back.

Yeah I think the bike I rode at Whiteface was $5kish. That was my first time on a bike with the 29" wheels and full suspension with so much shock travel.

i actually ride a high end cannondale mx bike with 6" travel in front and back now...took me a while to get used to riding it coming from a front suspension small bike. Bought it almost new for $2000 as a demo, retailed for $5800!!

My own bike was less...much less than that haha. But I guess it having low limits keeps me from hurting myself.

You're talking something to get you and your bike up to a trailhead?

I think there's a line between "bike that won't let you get past your own abilities" and "bike that won't let you get out of your own way," if you know what I mean.
